Hospital Care and Contrasting Support Systems
Overwork finally catches up with Lin Zhixia when intense research causes her to misstep, resulting in a leg fracture and hospital admission. While her brother Lin Zechu reacts with anxious scolding, two distinct approaches emerge regarding her recovery.
Dr. Shen Fuxuan takes charge of her medical care with methodical precision. He arranges tailored meals, manages daily necessities, and volunteers for night shifts to supervise her ward. Even when hospital colleagues tease him about treating her like a partner, Shen Fuxuan remains focused on creating a tightly regulated recovery bubble. His attention is clinically thorough, treating Zhixia primarily as a vulnerable patient who requires supervision.
Zhang Yubai approaches her confinement from an entirely different angle. Recognizing how suffocated Zhixia feels being trapped with unfinished formulas running through her mind, he finds a wheelchair and wheels her outdoors into the sunlight.
Recreating the rushing sensation of riding a skateboard, Zhang Yubai lets her feel the open breeze again. Lin Zechu criticizes the stunt as reckless, but the gesture gives Zhixia the emotional room she needed to breathe. The Research Dilemma: External Help Versus Intellectual Independence
Lin Zechu attempts to relieve his sister's workload by arranging two mathematics PhD candidates from Professor Shen's lab to assist her project. On paper, receiving elite institutional reinforcement looks like the most secure path forward.
When Lin Zechu consults Zhang Yubai, Yubai offers a clear read of Zhixia's character. He points out that Zhixia is far more resilient than her family assumes, emphasizing that bypassing her peers with outside ringers would rob her of genuine achievement.
When presented with the resumes right before discharge, Zhixia immediately turns them down. Relying on outside specialists would break faith with her existing teammates and undermine their shared effort. Zhang Yubai supports her decision without hesitation, reinforcing that his respect for her autonomy outweighs conveniency. Mathematical Analogies and Jin Baihui's Bold Defiance
Back in her room, Zhixia reflects on Zhang Yubai through her familiar framework of logic. She admits in her personal sketch notes that their connection no longer fits a predictable linear model of X and Y coordinates. While Shen Fuxuan provides calculated safety, Zhang Yubai functions like an unpredictable variable whose understanding reaches beyond equations that calculus can map out.
Meanwhile, the episode delivers its sharpest turn through Jin Baihui. Determined to escape an arranged blind date set up by her family, Baihui flees to Lin Zechu's apartment. When her parents arrive unexpectedly at the doorstep demanding obedience, Lin Zechu steps in to defuse the confrontation.
Instead of backing down, Baihui takes Lin Zechu's hand and states directly that he is her boyfriend and that they are living together. That declaration shatters parental control and commits them both to facing the consequences together. Unresolved Threads Leading Into Episode 23

- The Self-Reliant Math Project: Having declined elite university reinforcements, Zhixia and her original teammates must now prove their core formulas without outside shortcuts.
