Cold Distances and Secret Follows in Bangkok
The dynamic between Jiang Mu and Jin Zhao feels strained right from the start in Bangkok. Even while fixing a busted water heater hose in his cramped quarters, Jin Zhao maintains a deliberate emotional boundary, treating her like an unwanted guest rather than family. When he heads out into the city, he spots her trailing him almost immediately on the busy street and warns her to stop shadowing his steps.
Instead of turning back, Jiang Mu catches an unexpected ride. A local contact named Jin Fengzi pulls up in a tuk-tuk, sports bright red hair, and clearly knows Jin Zhao well. Jiang Mu bluffs on the spot, pretending she already had plans to meet up with her brother. That quick gamble lands her straight into Bangkok's shadow world, where Jin Zhao spends his evenings.
The Underground Ring and the Youzhou Persona
The venue turns out to be a sweltering illegal fight club packed with spectators and high-stakes gambling bosses like the head of Wanji Motors. Here, Jin Zhao does not fight under his real name; everyone knows him as Youzhou. The match itself isn't a show of refined combat technique. He absorbs brutal strikes, taking severe physical punishment just to collect prize money from the wealthy onlookers.
Watching him bleed in the ring breaks Jiang Mu's composure. She screams out from the audience, offering to pay whatever debt or compensation is needed just to halt the beating. Hearing her voice cuts through Jin Zhao's focus. He climbs down from the canvas, grabs her arm, and drags her out of the arena into the dark parking structure.

Parking Lot Confrontation and the High-Speed Chase
In the garage, Jin Zhao demands to know who brought her and coldly tells her to head back home now that she has witnessed his rock-bottom reality. But Jiang Mu unleashes years of pent-up hurt. She reveals how she wrote letters that never received replies, posted her contact info on the old family stairs, and pushed herself academically so he would never feel disappointed in her. She did not travel all the way to Thailand to watch him get battered for cash.
Before they can resolve anything, hostile vehicles swarm their car. Jin Zhao takes the wheel while Jiang Mu quickly pivots into navigator mode, calling out sharp turns and alley exits on her phone screen to dodge the pursuers through the night streets of Bangkok.
The Girlfriend Cover Story and Childhood Flashbacks
Cornered by local syndicate enforcers at their destination, Jin Zhao makes an impromptu move to shield Jiang Mu's identity. He pulls her tight against him, claiming to the suspicious crowd that she is his jealous girlfriend who followed him out of suspicion. The physical closeness shifts the atmosphere instantly, creating a tense undercurrent between them.
Once the threat passes and Jiang Mu sits alone, her memory drifts back to their youth. She recalls Jin Zhao gently guiding her hand while teaching her how to write at their home dining table, smiling warmly. That sharp contrast leaves her wondering what pushed a once-promising student into such dangerous underworld circles. Adding to the tension is the reminder that they are not biologically related siblings, a boundary adult family figures previously warned them to respect.
